How to Train Your Dog to NOT PULL on the Leash

When it is time to leash train your new dog or puppy, you must let him know that you are boss. Punishment does nothing but make him afraid of you and it doesn't actually correct the behavior. One thing that you should do, is make a short leash so that he has to stay right by your side. Do not let him lead you. You are the leader, not him.

Tip! You, as the leader of the pack, should always eat first. In the animal world the Alpha always eats before the rest of the pack.
When training your dog to walk on a leash, remember that your dog should follow where you lead, not the other way around. Dogs are pack animals, and the leader of the pack always travels in front.

You want your dog to see you as the leader, so they need to learn to walk behind you.

While dog training with a leash, make sure that you are keeping the collar snug, yet a little bit loose. When the collar is too tight, it can actually make the dog want to pull you. A little slack can go a long way when you are dog training with a leash.

Tip! Are you house training your dog? If so, then understand that the food and water they consume must come out at some point. You can promote consistency and regularity by feeding your pet on a firm schedule two or three times daily with only the highest quality of food.
When bringing a new puppy home, plan to keep him on the leash and in your sight for a few days. When you can't be with him, have a safe place for him to go. This will help you to find your pet's trouble spots and teach him the house rules.

The type of leash, collar, and harness are very important to take into consideration when training a dog. The bigger the dog the more secure these items will need to be.

Also if one has a dog that pulls on the leash a harness should be used to control the animal opposed to a choke chain or collar. The right equipment is essential to dog training.
