TIP! If you are working on crate training your indoor puppy or dog, you can always try a few tricks. If they don't want to go in the crate, try luring them in with a treat or chew bone.
When walking your dog on a leash, never keep the leash too tight. A tight leash creates a counter pressure response and can cause the dog to become uptight or agitated. Your dog may then pull, rather than walk correctly on the leash. Being less restrictive with your leash hold will allow for a more pleasant walking experience.
TIP! Digging can be a troublesome behavior with some dogs. One way to address this is to create an area where your dog is allowed to dig.
Sometimes it may be necessary to physically establish yourself as the Alpha in the pack. If your animal is being aggressive to another animal or a person, hold them by the scruff of the neck and put them in a prone position on the ground firmly, not violently. This lets your dog know you are in charge and exhibits behavior they would expect from another dog.
TIP! Food and treats can be your ally in training your dog to seek out his crate. Allow your dog to find strategically placed bits of food and a few treats every once in awhile when he returns to his crate.
After each training session, spend a few minutes playing your dogs favorite game with him. If you do this every time, your dog will know it's coming after the training sessions and will be excited when it comes time for your daily session. The more excited he is, the better he'll do.
TIP! If your dog barks and growls at strangers in your home, do this: leash your dog, make him sit, wait until his attention is on you, and hand the leash, in full view of the dog, to your guest. Then wait until the dog is calm again, with the guest giving commands as needed.
Begin the training with an easy to learn behavior. This ensures that success comes quickly and your dog learns to love training sessions. This provides you with greater results throughout the training.
TIP! While dog training with a leash, make sure that you are keeping the collar snug, yet a little bit loose. When the collar is too tight, it can actually make the dog want to pull you.
While training your dog, make sure both of you are having fun. A sense of play brings you and your dog together. This bond makes the dog more responsive to your commands and training him easier. Having fun with your dog during training is one thing, but playing and having fun with your dog outside of training is also necessary.
Lots of folks are amazed to learn how easy it can be to train a dog. Simple changes in our own behavior, as well as simple techniques that we implement, can result in big improvements in our dog's behavior.
